FAQs

What will you absolutely, by no means, accept?

Like I said in the guidelines, no racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, ableist, or explicitly sexual content or behavior. Does that mean you can't send anything where marginalization is a factor in how the piece progresses? Of course not. But something that is, for example, racist for racist sake is prohibited.

On the sexual note, I don't mind work that handles mature subjects, but please nothing too explicit for the sake of any minors that might read the magazine or assist in reading submissions. (If you think I am talking about you here, I am.)

Additionally, I reserve the right to pull your piece from publication pre- or post-release should you exhibit any of the above behavior after the fact.

How long should I expect before I get a response?

Each submission should receive a response within one month. Depending on how many submissions are in the queue, that could be a lot sooner (say, a few hours). However, I am a busy, tired child with a day job and all of our guest readers are equally busy volunteers.

If you haven't received a response within six weeks, send me a follow up email.

Is this a paying publication?

Nah, man. Not yet. I am in college and broke as a joke. I would like to open up to being a paying issue at some point, but believe me, I will plug you so hard on Twitter, it's insane. That's all I can do at this point, and I hope all my love is enough.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

As someone who sent their first piece off to 12 different literary magazines, it would be completely hypocritical of me to say no. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please do notify us by replying to your original email that your submission has been accepted elsewhere.

What's the deal with copyright and all that?

Please do not send previously published work for a reprint. Maybe at a later date, but not quite today.

While we appreciate credit as the original publisher of your work, all rights revert to you as an author and an artist upon publication. Do with it what you wish after that.

What's your social media?

Well, right now you can find us on Twitter @SouthchildLit. Send me a DM, I'll keep tabs with ya. If you want my personal Twitter, you can find me at @MagiSumpter.

I have a question that isn't answered here. What do I do?

Well, send me an email to southchildlitmag@gmail.com with the subject line [QUESTION] and then shoot. I'll try my best to help you with whatever you need.
